Tapio Wirkkala

1915 Hanko (Finnland) – 1985 Esbo

1933–36 Studium der Bildhauerei in Helsinki, 1951–54 künstlerischer Leiter der dortigen Werkkunstschule. Mitarbeit im Designbüro von Raymond Loewy/New York. 1955 Gründung eines eigenen Designbüros. Zudem arbeitete er als freier Designer für zahlreiche internationale Firmen. Wirkkala erhielt für seine Arbeiten viele internationale Auszeichnungen. Seine Entwürfe befinden sich u.a. : Staatl. Kunstsammlungen/Dresden, Kunstgewerbemuseum Zürich, Victoria and Albert Museum/London.
