Adolph Tidemand

1814 Mandal – 1876 Christiania

Norwegischer Maler. Tidemand sammelte erste künstlerische Erfahrungen in privatem Zeichenunterricht und besuchte anschließend die Zeichenschule in Christiania. Zwischen 1832–37 studierte er an der Akademie in Kopenhagen und siedelte anschließend nach Düsseldorf über, um sein Studium 1837–41 an der Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf bei Hildebrandt und Schadow fort zu setzen. Anschließend begab er sich auf Reisen nach Italien und Norwegen. Ab 1849 ließ er sich in Düsseldorf nieder und sammelte einen Kreis skandinavischer Künstler um sich, die ihm und seinem Landsmann Hans Gude nacheiferten. 1869 erhielt er eine Honorarprofessur an der Düsseldorfer Akademie.
