Sohn Carl August Sigismunds. 1820/29 Schüler an der Dresdner Akademie bei Traugott Leberecht Pochmann und F. Matthäi. Beeinflußt von Caspar David Friedrich und Johann Christian C. Dahl. Seit 1857 Ehrenmitglied der Dresdner Kunstakademie.

Oil on paper, auf Malpappe kaschiert. Signiert u.re. "JvLeypold". Verso von unbekannter Hand bezeichnet. In profilierter, mit Palmettenfries und floralen Eckornamenten versehener, goldfarbener Holzleiste gerahmt.
In den Randbereichen unscheinbar farbspurig; dezente Reißzwecklöchlein in den Ecken. O.re. leichte Firnisverfärbung; kleinere Retuschen im Himmel und minimale Farbausplatzung u.re.
