Utagawa Hiroshige
1797 Edo (Tokio) – 1858 ebenda
Japanischer Zeichner und Meister des Farbholzschnitts. Ab 1809 hatte Hiroshige zunächst das Amt des Feuerwehroffiziers inne, das ihm von seinem Vater übergeben worden war. Neben dieser Arbeit nahm er eine Lehre als Farbholzschnittzeichner auf und erhielt Malunterricht bei Rinsai. Ab 1810 oder 1811 begann er eine Ausbildung bei dem Holzschnittzeichner Utagawa Toyohiro (ca. 1763–1828). Zunächst entstanden Buchillustrationen, Kabuki-Drucke ("Yakusha-e"), Bilder schöner Frauen ("Bijin-ga") sowie Darstellungen historischer Begebenheiten ("Musha-e"). Um 1832 entstand seine erste Serie "Berühmte Ansichten der Oststraße", die großen Publikumsanklang fand. Daraufhin erhielt Hiroshige den bedeutenden Auftrag der Produktion der Serie "55 Stationen der Tokai-Straße" und im Folgejahr "53 Stationen des Tokaido", welche als Sammelalben verlegt wurden. Als nunmehr anerkannter Künstler, erhielt er bis zu seinem Tod zahlreiche Aufträge für die Gestaltung von Farbholzschnitten und -serien. Auf dem Höhepunkt seines Schaffens entstand in seinen zwei letzten Lebensjahren die Serie "100 Berühmte Ansichten von Edo". Maßgeblichen Einfluss übte Hiroshige auf die europäische Kunst im 19. Jahrhundert aus und inspirierte Künstler wie bspw. Vincent van Gogh.

Wood cut in colours auf Japan. Signiert in roter Kartusche li. "Hiroshige ga". Die Titelkartusche am Rand re.o. Mit dem Zensorsiegel "Tanaka Hei'jiro" u.re. Verlegt bei Sanoki. Mit dem Datumssiegel 1843-1845. In Blei von fremder Hand künstlerbezeichnet "Hiroshige" am ob. Blattrand re. Wohl Nachdruck.
Insgesamt etwas knickspurig und Papier stärker gebräunt. Titelkartusche am re. Rand angeschnitten. Linker Rand mit Anobienfraß-Löchlein Mi. sowie mit klebemontierten Papierresten. Bleistift-Strichlein am ob. Rand Mi. Verso bräunliche Flecken sowie Montierungsreste an Ecke u.li.

Wood cut in colours auf feinem Japan. Jeweils betitelt in japanischen Schriftzeichen "Nachlassender Sturm in Misui", "Regen auf dem Berg Asukayama", "Abendröte bei Takanawa" und "Schneefall in Ueno". Signiert u.li., bzw. u.re. "Hiroshige". Rote Titelkartusche mit Bezeichnung der Serie o.re. Drei Blätter mit dem runden Siegel des Zensors "Mura". Jeweils mit dem Signum des Verlegers "Joshu-ya Kinzo".
Blatt "Regen auf dem Berg Asukayama" Japanpapier o.Mi. partiell gedünnt und mit Ergänzung der Schriftzeichen. Vereinzelte, unscheinbare Löchlein verso hinterlegt.
