Frederik de Moucheron

1633 Emden – 1686 Amsterdam

Frederik de Moucheron war französischer Herkunft, Sohn des Malers Balthazar de Moucheron. Sein Vater ist im Familienporträt von Pierre de Moucheron "Portrait of Pierre de Moucheron and his family" (Rijksmuseum SK-A-1537) dargestellt.
Frederik lernte bei Jan Asselijn. 1656 reiste er nach Frankreich, wo er drei Jahre verbrachte. Danach Rückkehr nach Amsterdam. Er malte hauptsächlich französische, italienische und niederländische Landschaften, in welchen seine auf Figurenmalerei spezialisierten Kollegen wie z. B. Adriaen van de Velde, Johannes Lingelbach und Nicolaes Pieterszoon Berchem die Figuren hinzufügten. Frederiks Sohn Isaac war Rembrandtschüler und ebenfalls ein erfolgreicher Maler und Graveur.

Frederik de Moucheron 1633 Emden – 1686 Amsterdam

Oil on canvas. With remnants of a signature (letter "M" recognizable) u.Mi Framed in a gold-coloured, historicising decorative frame with rocaille decorations and corner cartouches, where it is typographically inscribed "Frederik de Moucheron" on a metal label. With a written assessment by Ellis Dullaart, MA, RKD, The Hague, dated 06.09.2018.
Provenance: Gallery Dr. Schäf Paintings by old and new masters, Berlin W 8, Behrenstr. 28; collection Carl F. and Emma Müller, Berlin, acquired on 19 February 1927; private collection Berlin.

Canvas wax-doubled, on a new stretcher frame, edges of the original canvas cut all around. Paint layer with age crackle as well as with small retouchings in the area of the sky and a cloud on the right surface with punctual brownish spots and small defects of the paint layer in the border area. Varnish yellowed, with light varnish flaw upper right, in the upper middle with a yellowish dirt stain and two scratches to the right.
