Holzschneider nach Lehre u. Tätigkeit als Stuckateur. 1960–65 Studium an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig. 1965–67 freischaffend tätig. 1967–70 Assistent an der HGB, seit 1970 Leiter der Werkstatt Holzschnitt, seit 1976 Dozent. 1981–82 Gastdozent für Holzschnitt u. -stich im finnischen Jyväskylä. Seit 1989 Professor u. 1990–97 Prorektor der Leipziger HGB.
