Giovanni Ottaviani

Ottaviani begann seine künstlerische Laufbahn als Schüler von Jos. Wagner in Venedig. Beeinflußt wurde er zudem von dem italienischen Kupferstecher R. Morghen. In Venedig und Rom tätig, erhielt er 1772–77 das Privileg, eine Reihe von Gemälden aus den Loggien von Raffael im Auftrag Papst Clemens XII zu stechen, die ein solche Begeisterung erfuhren, daß sogar Zarin Katharina II von Russland und Friedrich II. von Preußen diese als Kopien anfertigen ließen.
