1731 Ausbildung an der Petersburger Akademie der Wissenschaften bei Chr. A. Wortmann. 1754 Arbeit in der St. Petersburger Typographie, für die er Architekturansichten und Portraits stach. Als einer der ersten russischen Künstler befasste sich Katschaloff mit der Illustrierung von Büchern.

Coloured enraving. Inscribed in russian, titled and inscribed "d' hyver de sa Majesté Imperiale & les batimens de l' Academie des Sciences". Framed in mat with glass. Expanded stillage with golden band.
Restored tear to the left edge (outside the illustration). Humidity damage to the left edge of illustration (see detailed photo), edges of the sheet with minor traces of dust. Verso bottom edge of paper with damage due to an old mounting. Mat renewed.
