post-Auction Report

Following up the outstanding sales results of the 8th fine art auction in June, the recent 9th auction proofed a great success for Schmidt Fine Art Auctions again.

In the range of old master works, two coloured copper engravings by the Russian artist Katschaloff showing St. Petersburg could improve considerably from a call-up price of 550 Euros to 1.600 Euros each. Nonwithstanding some moisture damage, the little gouache “View of Napoli from the grave of Vergil” was worth amazing 400 Euros to new owner.

The section of Modern Art held ready with many surprises. The early and very rare painting of the artist Karl Kunz was attracting high attention in the run-up of the auction. Called up with the limit of 3.500 Euros, the persistent bidding of numerous prospective buyers on the phones and on the floor resulted in a knock-down price of 10.000 Euro. The painting of the Dix-student Gussy Hippold-Ahnert experienced well-deserved recognition at a knock-down price of 7.000 Euros after intense battles between telephone and local bidders.

Of absolute rareness and so of high interest for collectors were the two bronze figures by the sculptor Otto Pilz “Monkey with Mercedes star”. Called up with moderate limits of 400 and 800 Euros respectively, those figures changed hands for 2.000 Euros each.
