Ohashi Manpo
1860 Provinz Mino – 1943 ebenda
Japanischer Maler, der sich, abgesehen von wenigen Ausnahmen, auf Tigermotive spezialisierte. Weitaus größere Berühmtheit erlangte sein Bruder Suiseki Ohasi (1865– 1945), der von der mittleren Meiji -Zeit bis zur frühen Showa-Zeit tätig war. Er hatte sich ebenso auf Tiger spezialisiert, wurde hoch geschätzt und war der einzige Japaner, der auf der Pariser Weltausstellung (1900) eine Goldmedaille erhielt.

Kakejiku (scroll painting). Painting on silk. Signed "Hashipo" (abbreviated for Ohashi Manpo). With two artist's or studio seals.
Provenance: Acquired by the consignor's grandfather in Japan, probably before World War I or early 20th century.
With scattered creases and fold marks, wavy due to storage. Small moisture stain (ca. 15 mm).
