Schmidt Kunstauktionen Dresden

1871–74 Besuch der Kunstakademie in Dresden, 1876 Wechsel an die Berliner Akademie. Ab 1879 wieder in Dresden. 1884 wurde er Mitglied des Malerkreises "Goppelner Gruppe" und beteiligte sich an den Dresdner Sezessions-Ausstellungen. Seinen Unterhalt verdiente er sich mit Illustrationen, was ihn zu einem der gefragtesten Illustratoren Ende des 19. Jh. machte. Um 1900 wandte er sich verstärkt der Malerei zu. Freundschaft und Zusammenarbeit mit Carl Bantzer.
