Eigentlich Paul Ernst Karl Cassel. 1907–09 Besuch der Kunstgewerbeschule in Erfurt, 1909–14 Studium an der Kunstgewerbeschule Dresden bei Naumann und Guhr. Teilnahme am Ersten Weltkrieg. Danach Anschluss an den Freundeskreis um Conrad Felixmüller, Otto Griebel, Otto Dix und Elfriede Lohse-Wächtler. 1921 Übersiedlung mit seiner Familie von Dresden nach Wehlen. 1921 und 1930 Geburt der Söhne Ra und Constantin. 1925, 1926, 1929 und 1933 Ausstellungen in der Galerie "Neue Kunst Fides" in Dresden, 1926 Ausstellungsbeteiligung an der Internationalen Kunstausstellung Dresden. Gründungsmitglied der "Dresdner Sezession 1932". 1933 als "entartet" verfemt, Malverbot. Lebensunterhalt durch Arbeit im Steinbruch. 1944 Einberufung zum Kriegsdienst, verstarb in sowjetischer Gefangenschaft.
