Ausbildung zum Lithografen. Ab 1886 Studium an der Kunstakademie und der Königlich Sächsischen Kunstgewerbeschule in Dresden, Bei Erwin Oehme, Friedrich Preller und Hermann Prell. Nach dem Studium freischaffend tätig als Grafiker, Maler und Formgestalter. Letzteres für die Hellerauer Werkstätten, unter anderem entwarf er Raumausstattungen für die Weltausstellung 1900 in Paris. 1892–93 Aufenthalt in Holland. Gründungsmitglied der Künstlervereinigung Dresden und Mitglied der Neuen Künstlervereinigung München sowie ab 1895 Mitglied der Künstlerkolonie Goppeln.
