Hans Meid 1883 Pforzheim – 1957 Ludwigsburg
Oil on canvas. Unsigned. Framed in a white molding.
Using his painting to escape the disagreeable reality, Hans Meid almost exclusively portrayed lovers, nudes, bathers, horse riders and fléneurs – often with an Italian landscape. He tried to avoid an identification with social grievances and his student Gunter Böhmer, painter and illustrator himself, remembered that Meid was putting up “resistance against anything negating, destructive, chaotic” and was in bound to a “poetical world of beautiful shapes”.
Bildträger mit ausgerissenen Rändern re., mit Papier hinterlegt. Mehrere Löcher im Bildträger auf der re. Bildhälfte, mit Japanpapier kaschiert. Malschicht mit entsprechenden Fehlstellen.

Otto Wilhelm Merseburg 1874 Ehringsdorf (Weimar) – 1947 Sottorf (Hamburg)
Oil on canvas. Signed “Merseburg” on lower left hand side. Molded gold-coloured frame.
Considering the year of its creation the painting appears anachronistically impressionistic. But actually Otto Wilhelm von Merseburg avoided deliberately the artistic styles in vogue to maintain an atmospheric style of painting. He abstained from harsh contrasts in terms of color as well as brush application. The shapes never fade but easily merge into each other. With these principles Merseburg creates a great atmospheric concentration.
Bildträger mit zu geringer Spannung und mit konvexer Leinwandbeule o.re. Stark vergilbter Firnis, Vor allem an den Bildrändern Fehlstellen und lockere Malschicht. Rahmen mit Bestoßungen und Fehlstellen.

Oil on cardboard. Verso in Farbstift signiert und bezeichnet "Möbius. Landhaus". Im einfachen, weiß gefaßten Profilrahmen mit silberfarbener Sichtleiste gerahmt.
Malschicht leicht angeschmutzt, mit vereinzelten Kratzspuren und zum Rand hin ausgedünnter. Malträger minimal gewölbt.
