Yamaguchi Chikuyôsai Tomochika 1800 Edo (Japan) – 1873 ?

Ivory. Ivory, carved. Verso signed "Tomochika".

The netsuke shows Benten the goddess of luck with a fan and two symbolik figures at her feet. Benten also figures as the goddess of love and mercy as well as protector of the fine arts.

Provenance: Privatsammlung Sachsen; Kunsthandel Klefisch, Köln, 2015; Sammlung K. M. Schwarz.

With a certificate by Hans-Martin Schmitz, Köln, registered expert with the Bundesamt für Naturschutz, vom 10.12.2018.
