Maler, Zeichner und Kupferstecher. Schüler der Dresdner Kunstakademie, u.a. acht Jahre bei A. Zingg. 1789 Pensionär der Akademie, 1810 Mitglied und fünf Jahre später außerordentlicher Professor. Die Motive seiner Arbeiten entnahm er hauptsächlich seiner sächs. Heimat, vor allem der Umgebung Dresdens und der Sächs. Schweiz.

Christian August Günther getauft 1759 Pirna – 1824 Dresden

, koloriert. In der Platte unter der Darstellung bezeichnet "Das Schloß Meißen. Dem Herrn Freiherrn zu Racknitz Churfürstl. Sächs, Haus-Marschall, des Johannitter=Maltheser Ordens Ritter unterthänig gewidmet von C. A. Günther.", dazwischen mittig das das Wappen des genannten Freiherrn zu Racknitz. Verso von fremder Hand in Blei mit Angaben zum Künstler versehen. Im Passepartout hinter Glas in einer Berliner Leiste gerahmt.
