Schüler von W. Conz und W. Trübner in Karlsruhe. 1911 Villa-Romana-Preis. 1919 bis Anfang der 1930er Jahre Professor an der Berliner Akademie, seit 1948 an der Stuttgarter Akademie. Außerdem Entwerfer für die Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen. Mitglied der Berliner Secession und der Preußischen Akademie der Künste.
