Carl Friedrich Heinrich Werner
1808 Weimar – 1894 Leipzig
Studierte bei Hans Veit Schnorr von Carolsfeld an der Leipziger Akademie. 1829 Studium der Architektur in München. Ging 1831 zur Malerei über. Er erlangte 1832 ein Reisestipendium für Italien und reiste über Venedig, Bologna, Florenz nach Rom. War seit 1845 Mitglied des deutschen Künstlervereines und wurde dessen erster Präsident. Gründete 1851 ein Meisteratelier für Aquarellmalerei in Venedig, aus dem als sein bester Schüler Ludwig Passini hervorging. 1856 kehrte er nach Deutschland zurück, übernahm an der Leipziger Akademie das Lehrfach für Aquarellmalerei. In den Sommermonaten reiste er nach England, Spanien, Palästina, Griechenland und Italien.

Watercolour. and crayon on thin artist's board, mounted on larger board. Signed bottom right "C. Werner" and dated, entitled bottom left. Framed behind glass in ornamental stucco frame.
Sheet allover brownish and yellowish. Light traces of paint in the sky and near the horizon. The carrying board with visible rests of a former mounting. Frame partially with small chips.
