Hans Unger
1872 Bautzen – 1936 Dresden
1887–92 Lehre als Dekorationsmaler in Bautzen. 1888–93 Student im Malersaal des Königlichen Dresdner Hoftheaters. 1892–96 Studium an der Dresdner Kunstakademie bei Friedrich Preller d.J. und Heinrich Prell. 1897 wurde das erste Gemälde "Die Muse" von der Gemäldegalerie Neue Meister angekauft. 1897/98 Studium an der Académie Julian in Paris bei Tony Robert-Fleury und Jules-Joseph Lefebvre. 1899 hatte Unger einen eigenen Saal bei der Deutschen Kunstausstellung in Dresden. Mitglied des 1903 gegründeten "Deutschen Künstlerbundes", der "Goppelner Malerschule" und der "Dresdner Sezession". Nach 1906 Ernennung zum Professor. 1912 eigener Saal im neu eröffneten Bautzener Stadtmuseum. 1917 Teilnahme an der Ausstellung der Dresdner Kunstgenossenschaft. 1933 organisierte der Sächsische Kunstverein eine letzte große Ausstellung anlässlich seines 60. Geburtstags.

The subject of awakening, daybreak and dawn predominates the painting of Hans Unger during the 1920’s. In collections and the art-dealing there are several familiar sceneries repeating this theme. Pastel crayons in colours on brownish drawing paper. Signed in crayon "H. Unger" top right. Mounted in the original passepartout. Ibidem titled verso in ink top center, differently noted in pencil as well as with the stamped signature "Hans Unger". With dedication by the artist's daughter Maja Unger. Framed behind glass in gilded decorated frame.
Unprofessional mounting, partially showing through. Pin holes. Corner bottom right with very small loss.
